castro's Kryptonite

I spend a lot of time on this blog bitching about the media and how they are biased, especially in their coverage of Cuba. Many times I've said that it's amazing what left-wing dictators are allowed to get away with. My disdain for most journalists is exacerbated by the fact that so many of their independent journalist counterparts are rotting away in Cuban jails and prisons.

The irony is that these Cubans are the real journalists despite the fact that they aren't paid to report. You don't have to work for CNN or Reuters to be journalist. In fact many of the so-called journalists that work for those outlets and others are merely public relations flacks in disguise. They've made a Faustian deal with the devil of fidel castro and thus don't report anything negative about him.

fidel castro is afraid of only one thing in the world, truth. He has always understood that his ability to hold on to power lies in the ability to manipulate the way people perceive him and his regime. That's why these humble men and women, without the benefit of the tools of the journalistic trade, scare him so much. They have exhibited the bravery to stand up and document Cuba's truths despite the danger this entails. They have displayed the bravery that few of their foreign counterparts have displayed.

Behold castro's kryptonite:
What you see above is a humble dispatch from a Cuban independent journalist. Along with others like it, this dispatch tells us what's happening on the island. It's uncensored raw truth. Truth the so-called mainstream media won't report.

Today I join the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) in calling for the release of imprisoned Cuban journalists. Additionally I urge all of the world's leaders to condemn the jailing of independent journalists in Cuba. Wake up world. Wake up to the abuses going on in the name equality and social justice. It's time to remove the blinders and hold fidel castro accountable.

Looks like Castro has some help. Reuters has a Havana-based correspondent who wrote for the Communist Party USA newspaper for 5 years.

I was just looking at Castro's kryptonite. The only problem is I do not read spanish, so I cannot read the text or his Castro's critique. Is it possible to translate this text so that people who are not fluent in spanish can read this?

It's actually an old dispatch about hurricane damage in Cuba. The point is that something as innocuous as this is what Fidel's afraid of. That people may learn that Cuba isn't the perfect paradise he wants people to think it is.
