One Bureaucrat's discouraging opinion

Watching A Mano Limpia on local TV tonight, the host Oscar Haza had a guest named Manuel Rocha who is a slow-talking former U.S. ambassador to Bolivia. And he said something that I think is completely unfounded. He said that the United States does not want a massive exodus from Cuba. That part I agree with, but he had a very pessimistic viewpoint about what would cause that mass exodus. He believes that if the castro regime collapses that it will result in that mass exodus and only a strong government (i.e. a succession of the castro regime) will ensure that this doesn't happen. In other words he said that it's in the US' best interests to see a succession rather than a transition to democracy.

Personally I think he's full of shit. I think the people of Cuba want to see change. Not so they can come to the US but so they can stay and define their futures in Cuba. If our government feels the way Rocha does then Cubans are in big trouble. Pisses me off and makes me sad at the same time.

As a patriotic American and fervent libertarian I am ashamed that the U.S. didn't support Brigade 2506 during the Bay of Pigs invasion and that we haven't invaded and aided the Cuban people (as we were aided by France during our Revolutionary War) in their fight for freedom already.

Who the hell appointed that ambassador? His statements are ignorant, bordering on evil.
