What are the odds?

I found this short letter in today's Miami Herald and as I read it, I wondered what are the odds that this guy is for gun control here in America while at the same time he sees no problem with any unelected tryrant having nuclear weapons to "defend" their country and people

Why should each nation not have the capability, nuclear or otherwise, to defend its country and people?

No one seems to have the answer but "U.S.''
