July 26th, a day of mourning

The biggest holiday on the castroite calendar is a day of mourning for freedom-loving Cubans everywhere. That's why today, this blog's banner is adorned with black mourning bunting.

53 years ago today fidel castro, an attorney with a reputation for violence and killing, staged his version of the Beer Hall Putsch by attacking a Cuban army barracks called Moncada.

Just like his role model, adolph hitler (who doesn't deserve capital letters either), castro was caught and jailed. castro followed hitler's example right down to his famous exclamation that history would absolve him.

Far from absolving him, history will remember him for being a blood thirsty, power hungry, totalitarian egomaniac. To borrow Ronald Reagan's words, he will be "consigned to the dustbin of history" just like the failed communist system that he embraces and his manufactured holiday.

With castro approaching his 80th birthday I don't expect to post this black mourning bunting too many more times.
