Connections...

Life is funny. Sometimes there are weird connections made, kind of like six degrees of separation. Case in point:

There is a great post about Bob Dylan up at Blog for Cuba. After I read it I decided that I didn't have enough Dylan in my music collection so I started browsing the iTunes music store.

While looking the titles of some of the more well-known songs I came across "Hurricane" which of course I remembered from the movie "The Hurricane" starring Denzel Washington.

And thinking about the movie I remembered that Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, the boxer about whom the movie was made, had a 1966 Dodge Polara. In fact that was the car he was in when he was picked up by police for a triple murder.

So what, you might be asking. Well yours truly owns a 1966 Dodge Polara. I'm in the middle of restoring it. Actually I'm very close to being done. I just got the car back from the upholstery shop.

For the record, the movie "The Hurricane" is full of factual inaccuracies and outright misrepresentations. Of course it wouldn't have been a compelling movie if "The Hurricane" really turned out to be a triple murderer. For a thorough debunking of the Hollywood version of Carter's story click here.

Dylan is a must in your collection. After watching the documentary No Direction Home, I found myself stocking up on all his albums from his first one through Like a Rolling Stone, then Blood on the Tracks, his Greatest Hits, and his new one, Modern Times...he's the best!
