If you think local government is broken...

Do something about it!

Today, Tuesday January 23rd, Miami-Dade County is holding a special election. The issue at hand is a referendum on changing the County charter so that we will have an executive mayor form of government.

Right now the Mayor and the County Commissioners can hide their ineptitude behind the County manager and the department heads. When nothing gets done, they can blame these non-elected officials. An executive mayor will be able to hire and fire these people at will, resulting in more accountability.

I'm not saying that this will alleviate all the ills of this community, the ones that some seem to take glee in pointing out, but it's a start.

Vote yes on the executive mayor proposal today.
