Fact or fiction?

Here's a little true or false question for you.

All of the ice on the north pole could melt tomorrow without affecting sea levels. Fact or fiction?

It's a fact. Unlike ice on the South Pole the Ice on the North Pole is floating on the oceans. Since water in the form of ice displaces the same exact volume as liquid water. Don't believe me? Fill a bucket with ice and water. Mark the water level with a sharpie. Come back several hours later and check the water level. You will notice that it hasn't changed.

Learn more cool stuff like this by listening to The Skeptics Guide to the Universe podcasts. They are archived and you can hear any show any time you want and its free. I stumbled on the Skeptics guide by accident and I am hooked. You'll learn all about quackery, which by the way I think is a great word.
